Mos Eisley Cantina

A few years ago I had the idea to extend the original Mos Eisley Cantina set (4501) with extra parts so I could display some of my original Space Minifigs. In addition to that the Collectible Minifigures would get some seats as well.

Mos Eisley Cantina

Over the years I had collected more figures so that it already started to look like something. With everything I bought for this expansion of the Cantina I could store 44 minifigs in the MOC. By simply copying the seats and securing them with a hinge-plate, I could make it infinitely larger. But then the news came out that a new Mos Eisley Cantina set (75052) was coming out and I decided to wait for this and move on. After I bought the first new set, it turned out that the idea of the hinge plates would no longer work and I had to come up with something new.

So everything went back to the drawing board and some internet searching brought me to the map of the Cantina on Wookieepedia. After several attempts and designs, I finally got the layout I wanted. The MOC is now based on two sets 75052.

The color scheme is still based as much as possible on the original set. Some details are from the Wii Complete Saga courtesy of my youngest sun for playing the game repeatedly. To spice it up a bit I added the billboard. This is prepared to rotate to attract attention. For the Star Tours poster I used the design of Chris Deck and the other side is of course a nod to a WWII poster. Of course the “No Droids Allowed” sign could not be left out. Because the hinge plates would no longer work, I made the attachment using technic pins, so that the whole can now be divided into five pieces. Entrance, rear, two sides and the bar.

It measures 50 by 79 studs and several buildings and vehicles have been added for the diorama. In the middle is the moonbuggy from my very first LEGO set 920 Rocket Launch Pad. The Exo Suit also received a place as the last Classic Space set that was released up to date. In addition, of course, the other buildings that have already passed by, Outhouse, Imperial Communication Post, the Droid Shop and the Taxispeeder.

Because all Collictible Minifigs no longer fit, I have adjusted that and started looking for minifigs of each space theme. While searching for the minifigs that I was still missing, I also came across a number of figures that were never issued in the Netherlands and of course they had to be included. To complete the picture, a few custom figures have been made. In total there are 84 minifigures incorporated in the MOC. The complete list is here: Mos Eisley Minifig Count.
